Pneumatics or solids?

What tyres are better – puncture proof tyres or pneumatics?

Pneumatic tyres are filled with air and are susceptible to punctures. Pneumatic tyres offer a softer ride for the driver compared to solid tyres but advancing solid tyre manufacturing techniques are continuously reducing this gap. We have three-layer solid tyres which can almost match the cushioning of a pneumatic tyre. Solid cushion tyres last 3 to 5 times longer on average than pneumatic tyres with no punctures, therefore, no down time and no loss of productivity. Cuts or scraping of the solid tyre sidewalls, have little to no impact to the working and life of the tyre as opposed to pneumatic tyres which will usually result in replacing the tyre. To maximise their lifespan, solid tyres also have the benefit of being regrooved when they become smooth, but this is dependent on a few factors.

The life expectancy of solid tyres.

What is the general life expectancy of a set of cushion solid tyres on a forklift truck?

On a forklift truck, the life expectancy is dependent on the condition of operation, particularly the surface where the forklift truck is being used. Another key factor, which affects the lifespan of a cushion solid tyre, is the amount of hours usage per day. Heat buildup through continuous usage causes rapid wear. For Linde forklifts with the hydrostatic drive system, we recommend premium tyres only as heat buildup can cause two layer tyres and economically manufactured tyres to crack and burst.

Life expectancy of non-marking solid tyres.

What is the life expectancy of a set of non marking, solid cushion tyres?

Non-marking, solid cushion tyres last approximately 75 to 80 percent of the life of black tyres in comparison. They do not leave any marks on epoxy coated floors and it is the first choice of tyre to be used in the food and chemical industries, as there is no carbon black used in the production of the tyre.

What causes uneven tyre wear?

If a forklift truck takes the same turning circle continuously throughout the day, uneven tyre wear can occur. Usually this is the same side where the mast turns to. Another reason why this occurs is due to incorrect loading in the tyre mould during the manufacturing process.
